An Instrumentation Innovation

The Instrument Sensor provides incredible data collection capabilities in a miniature package. It’s able to operate autonomously for years while recording every impaction and autoclave cycle the host instrument undergoes. It’s innovative technology allow direct, secure communication with the Sterilization Tray Data Hub and can fit within almost any instrument. From torque limiting handles to spinal cage inserters, the Instrument Sensor can transform virtually any FDA Class 1 instrument into a smart device. The possibilities are truly endless!

Seamless Integration

Our Instrument Sensor can be provided as a “Smart Cap”, designed to fit into virtually any orthopedic instrument. It can easily replace existing impact caps to empower instruments with automatic force sensing and autoclave tracking abilities. Quantify exactly how often and how hard each instrument is used during live surgeries, accurately track instrument useful life, inform better surgical procedures, and ultimately improve patient outcomes.

Instrument Data Automatically Captured

  • Autoclave Cycles - Remotely track autoclave cycle start time, end time, and confirm required temperatures were met.

  • Impaction Events - Full impaction profiles are automatically recorded, during both surgeries and processing.

  • Torque Clicks - Our software can isolate and record mechanical torque clicks to accurately track instrument lifespan and calibration requirements.

Design Flexibility

Depending on the application, the Instrument Sensor housing can be made entirely from a high temperature thermoplastic such as Ultem PEI or Radel PPSU which promotes easy integrations into instruments that require steel or aluminum bodies (such as many torque limiting handles). Alternatively, it can be designed with a steel impact cap when necessary provided the instrument core can be made from radiolucent material such as Radel PPSU, useful for instruments like osteotomes or interbody cage inserters.
